Sacramento Gem: Masullo Pizza Date Night

November marks 3 years since we moved to Sacramento (woah!).  While we love trying and seeking out new spots there are definitely a few trusty date night favorites that we come back to Friday night after Friday night.  One such gem of a spot that we’ve been frequenting these past couple years: Masullo Pizza.  We’ve actually gone here the past two Fridays to get in those final date nights while we can because, while this place is rather baby friendly, who knows how long it might be until we’re back just the two of us.

While modest and simple in decor, this Land Park neighborhood pizzeria is everything we love in a date night spot.  Casual vibe, check.  Little to no wait, check (they only take walk-in’s).  And a simple menu made with seasonal local ingredients.  As a creature of habit my guy orders the 3 Meat pizza each time (along with the Timothy Taylor Pale Ale) while I usually switch things up, often ordering the pasta special (because it’s always so good!)… and pre-babe always with a house glass of red.  They also make some pretty scrumptious meatballs, rosemary bread, and salad creations which we like to share.  Their current fall salad special with chopped persimmons and apples over endive is super yummy!  In fact, I was inspired to recreate the concoction at home.

Also fun fact–the persimmons came straight from the owner’s sister’s tree just down the street.  And, this summer, when they had a fig pizza special, the figs came from the owner’s mother’s tree.  You gotta love that.

Additional casual date night spots we frequent often in Sac: One Speed (also for pizza), Kru (sushi–which I can’t wait to be able to eat my raw faves again soon), and Shoki (for ramen).
