Bridal Shower Style

I had the pleasure of hosting my cousin Nikki’s bridal shower two weekends ago in San Francisco. I had so much fun planning the beautiful champagne and dessert-filled celebration and will be sharing more details later this week but until then let’s chat all about bridal guest attire. My friends, blog readers, Syllabus customers and styling clients are constantly asking what to wear to summer wedding and pre-wedding related soirées. From the bachelorette to the bridal shower, rehearsal dinner and of course the wedding day, choosing the perfect outfit can be just as overwhelming for the attendees as it is the bride. We want to look good and dressed our best too! When thinking about my cousin’s bridal shower I knew I wanted to wear something feminine but not too overly girly. I was looking for something with color but not patterned. As my search continued and my list of criteria for this “perfect dress” grew I thought for sure I’d never find it. As a last resort I stumbled into Elizabeth Charles on Fillmore Street two days before the shower in which, Elizabeth (the owner), proceeded to talk me into this Self Portrait dress. At first glance it was completely not-me. I don’t typically do mid-length styles but after slipping it on I was quick to realize the sweet silhouette and slightly sexy cutouts felt just right. We had found a winner! I paired the dress with classic nude pumps and it proved to be ideal bridal shower attire.

Whenever I’m in a pinch for a last minute outfit and don’t have time to go to the store to try things on online shopping is my best friend. As a long time fan of PayPal‘s convenient and safe check-out option I’m excited to be partnering with the team in an effort to answer any / all of your wedding attire related questions! I will be hosting my first ever twitter chat this Friday, July 10th from 12-1pm PT–so please leave any comments below and I’ll do my best to answer them on Friday! You can also share your questions anytime starting today through the duration of the chat by using the hashtag #PPstylecouncil.

In the meantime here are my top 3 styling tips to keep in mind while searching for the perfect wedding related outfit this summer:

1. Never wear white (to any of the occasions–leave that color for the bride, whether she wears white or not, it will be much appreciated).

2. Stay true to your personal style. If you’re a pant girl wear pants–always opt for pieces you feel most like yourself in.

3. Take clues from the invite. The invitation always gives a few hints as to how formal you should dress (themed colors, tea vs. cocktail party, location–key when deciding footwear etc.)
