Consignment Fave: The RealReal

For me, the hardest part about delving deeper into the world of fashion, following my favorite designers, discovering a true appreciation for quality, talent and craftsmanship is obviously wanting to own those luxurious pieces. Thankfully, sites like The RealReal exist–because, as mentioned, I was able to recently snag the bag I’ve been drooling over at a fraction of the original priceI’ve always been (and always will be) a fan of the consignment / vintage hunt in person so I will admit that it took me awhile to get comfortable with the idea of shopping higher-end consignment online. I’ve also never been an eBay girl. That world overwhelms me (i.e.: how do you know what quality you’re actually going to get? etc. etc.) It wasn’t until this interview (which you must read for some pretty great consignment tips, especially as we head into fall) and a true heart-to-heart with a close girlfriend who is an avid The RealReal consigner that I fully got on board. Thank goodness for cool girlfriends who tell you what’s up and when you need to get rid of those–ehem–certain pieces right?

So, last week I had the chance to stop by The RealReal’s warehouse, just outside of San Francisco, where all of the authenticity, luxury experts and website photo-shoots take place. I was in complete awe of the behind-the-scenes world of the bustling industrial space, a former pie factory which now holds vaults filled with Hermès, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Rolex, and Céline.

Alaïa sweater dreams (and Stella McCartney + Hermès dreams below–although Alaïa gets my vote all day, everyday!).

I had so much fun making my way through the rows and rows of contemporary and high-fashion designers, stopping to drool over some favorites–Rodarte, Proenza Schouler, Chloé just to name a few–and picked out a few items to play dress up with. Stay tuned!
