How I’m Decorating for Christmas

With a crazy on the move, climbing, teetering, one year old I’m keeping things super simple and as Rex-friendly as possible this year.  In fact, I thought I got out of putting up a tree telling my husband it just wasn’t going to fly without surrounding it with baby gates, but he said that’s out of the question.  So we’re going to get an official tree this weekend.  Actually I think that’s a good call.  You gotta have the tree right?!

The past couple of years I’ve put wreaths in our windows (the Trader Joe’s wreaths for like $5 is my favorite holiday decor hack)… but this year I wanted to switch things up and do something different.  I called on my girlfriend Shannon (Thistle and Honey Floral) for some fun ideas and we came up with a minimal dried citrus vibe.  I’m so into it!  Drying the orange slices is easy or you can also buy them at some floral marts.  I used ornament hooks to hang them on the simple branches and strung them together along the mantel as well with twine.  Options are endless!  Actually since putting up our decor earlier in the week I’ve come across even more rad citrus decorating ideas and chains of orange and even lemon slices.  I think it adds such a pretty untraditional and fresh look to the holiday greens.

Drying the orange slices is super easy (just slice, squeeze out the juice and place in the over on low heat).
