DIY Inspiration Board

By senior year of college I was pretty confused about what I was going to do when I graduated. I was a pre-med student majoring in biology and chemistry yet by that fourth year I had figured out that medicine wasn’t for me. I sat down to create a vision board, cutting out random images that didn’t necessarily make sense at the time but if they spoke to me I’d paste them on. It wasn’t until this past year when I was home visiting from the east coast that I pulled that board out of a closet at my parent’s house. I was stunned to see how many of those magazine cutouts of mine had come true (6 years later!). Yes, some made sense: take up photography, marry my best friend and live in San Francisco. Yet others were complete dreams that I never would have thought would actually happen: move to New York City, work at ELLE magazine, meet the Olsen twins (how random is that? and it actually happened–and in their showroom at The Row).

Needless to say I’m a big proponent of putting those positive vibes and goals out there. So instead of making a list of resolutions for this new year, I decided to kick off January 1st with a new inspirational collage of sorts. I love the idea of changing the board every month for a fresh perspective so I DIY’d a mirror I had–swapping the glass for corkboard–so I’d have something to pin my monthly inspirations on. The steps and items needed are shown below along with a fun little video!
