5 Lessons Blogging Taught Me

My career path has been a bit all over the place since I graduated from undergrad, but looking back now it’s actually pieced together in a rather interesting way. I’m still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up (haha!)–mainly because I want to do and try so many things–but I’ve learned a great deal about myself in these past couple of years and CITNB gets a good chunk of the credit. Here are a couple of lessons blogging has taught me.

1) Step outside of that comfort zone. I’m a pretty outgoing gal but attending events alone can be daunting, meeting with inspirational individuals I admire can be intimidating and the list goes on. CITNB constantly pushes me outside of my comfort zone causing me to put myself out there more, to take more risks and to learn from my mistakes.

2) The importance of balance. My mind is a kooky-crazy place, constantly jumping from one idea to the next and it’s often hard for me to stay present. With our social media driven society, and my addiction to Instagram, it can be difficult to un-plug (although my guy tells me I’ve gotten better!). But when I take time to shut off and focus on the present, I’ve found that I’m much more productive after taking these mini breaks.

3) Surround yourself with positive, creative people (that hopefully make you laugh). Now that I have more time to focus on various creative endeavors I’m looking forward to collaborating more with those who encourage and inspire me, and let’s be honest, most projects wouldn’t even be possible on my own. Plus, positivity and laughter go a long way when it comes to brainstorming and thinking outside the box.

4) Stay true to who you are. I think the hardest part for me about having an online presence is that I constantly worry about coming off as true to who I am in person as possible. I try to keep things real and have learned it’s best to simply write as you talk. Hopefully it’s working?

5) Evolve and try new things. I love to experiment with various looks and trends, to cut and color my hair, to try new foods, discover new places and to meet new people. I’ve realized that I am the happiest and the best version of myself simply when I am experiencing anything new. Embracing change, keeping an open mind, and seeking out new discoveries / opportunities have all led to personal growth and the evolution of CITNB.
