gender reveal party

Gender Reveal

25 August

I had originally wanted to keep the gender a surprise to the very end.  My guy however is quite the planner and finally talked me into finding out at the 20 week anatomy scan.  A friend put it perfectly, “do you want your surprise at the half-way mark or the very end, either way it’s the same / best surprise of your life.”  So true.  The farther along in my pregnancy I got, the more I couldn’t stand it–and the countdown to week 20 was on.

So we gathered our fams for a backyard bbq and cut the cake!  It was hands down the best day of the summer (bringing back the same sweet butterflies I felt on our wedding day and the day I met my guy) and has made everything feel all the more real.  We had to cut the cake before eating lunch because the anticipation was killing us!

We took a family vote beforehand and my mom was voting girl–hence the manicure.  It’s hard to see but she got little blue dots on her pinky for the slight chance that it was a boy.

BOY!!  As soon as I could feel our babe start to move and kick (around week 15/16) I instinctively just knew it was a boy.  My guy can’t sit still and so I felt like I had a mini version of him moving around in there, ha.  I just keep picturing a mini-me T and it makes me so happy.

So any mamas with boys I’ll take any and all of the advice because I sure need it.

  • I think I would want to know before I actually give birth too, honestly. ALSO, I have always been curious about how gender reveals work. Does the couple normally know before they reveal it to their friends and family? Or do they find out at the same time as their friends and family? Like when you’re cutting the cake, I’m wondering if you already know or not? Or even when people do photoshoots with gender-inspired smoke colours or whatever. I literally am not sure what’s most common haha.

@dressupchowdown:disqus You can do whatever you want! A lot of couples find out beforehand but we wanted to be surprised with our families. We had the doctor write down the sex and then I took it to a local bakery and they made the cake with blue frosting. It was SO much fun to be surprised with everyone else and I think the doctor’s office would have been rather anticlimactic… so I would definitely recommend having them write it down–whether you want to do a reveal party or just open it privately with your partner.

      • Makes sense! I figured it was that with the cake since you did seem surprised in your photos. Thanks, Alicia 🙂

Congratulations!! My husband and I have two boys (9 &2) and believe me, I’m never not busy, running around or having a ton of fun. Boys are full of energy 24/7 which for a parent, can be exhausting but that also makes them eat & sleep very well;) I hardly ever have to work out anymore because I’m constantly chasing after them;) I’ve honestly never been more challenged in life, but I’ve also never felt so much love!

@kristenhug:disqus AW I LOVE that. I think a boy will bring so much joy and laugher to our lives… haha and I’m liking the no need to workout thought. That’s what everyone has been telling me. Eeks! 😉

  • Congrats! And, Freeport Bakery sounds yummy right now (love their lady fingers, too!)
