Girlfriends With Style

In my early blogging days I featured my girlfriends and chatted about their style. I really miss that! and was reminded of those long-ago posts again recently. I was living in San Francisco at the time, and had just gotten my first nice camera. It was in the beginning of “outfit posts” and I loved incorporating my girlfriends in the mix because a) I love my girlfriends, b) I wanted to practice my photog skills (which weren’t great) on any friend I could coerce to let me snap their pic, and c) I was incredibly awkward in any shots on my own. So really I should be thanking them!

I thought I’d post these remaining photos of my girlfriend Chris and I from last month in New York as an ode to those oldie but goodie posts and also, mostly, because she has such killer personal style. She is the one friend I know who refreshes Net-a-Porter as often as I do and is always the first (and only) person that I text with any shopping “should I or shouldn’t I” questions. We all need that girlfriend don’t we?

Chris’ style is both classic and feminine–similar to mine but when she’s in Chanel flats I’m in Isabel Marant western boots. I’m usually the one dressed more casually of the two but loved that on this particular afternoon she was sportin’ the denim.

She was the first to introduce me to M2Malletier–and has also recently made me take note of a whole new-to-me world of Colombian designers. I recently splurged on the most amazing ruffled off-the-shoulder Moda Zeta top thanks to Chris’ encouragement. (Will share soon!)

“Paula Mendoza had me the moment I tried on her accessories for the first time and her collections only get stronger and more beautiful every season. Johanna Ortiz is another favorite–her designs with dramatic sleeves give me butterflies. Finally, Moda Zeta–their “peasant top” is my go-to this season. No one can do bare shoulders like the Colombians!” ~ Chris

So where does she get her always on-point style inspiration?

“The girls in New York city are my biggest inspiration! I’ll get coffee and people watch for hours. I do this in every city I visit. Films also inspire me. Tilda Swinton in I Am Love and Andrea Riseborough as Wallis Simpson in W.E. are chic and timeless. I watch Coco Avant Chanel every time I need a reminder of why it’s OK to wear black every day, no matter what people say.

And, I have great friends that are terribly chic. We inspire each other in many ways, not just style. We are very honest with each other.” ~ Chris

** Update–received a few questions re: my wrap blouse. I can’t find online but here’s a chic alternative! and this one!
