Guest Ready for the Holidays

I’ve been hustling this week to get our place guest ready for the holidays as I’ve disrupted our usual family tradition of going home to our parent’s, and this year everyone will be coming to us. I’m so excited to host our families and to spend our first Christmas in the new house. We have plans for a post dinner Christmas Eve walk through our neighborhood (everyone goes all out with the lights around these parts) and a big Christmas morning brunch complete with my Dad’s sourdough pancakes (and hopefully my mother-in-law’s wildly popular blueberry scones). It feels like a whole new start of traditions!

To get ready for their arrival I’ve been moving furniture around, stocking the fridge (or more importantly, the bar!), hanging art on the walls, and my guy surprised me with new speakers so we can now blast music throughout the house. Game changer! They won’t all be staying with us but since my sister will, I’ve been working to fix up the guest room. Here’s a look at some of the touches I’ve made to the room and guest bath–including, stocking both with beautifying treats in collaboration with Eau So Love’s new fragrance collection.

As you know, we’ve spent the past 6ish months remodeling the downstairs of our home but haven’t touched the upstairs yet (besides a fresh coat of bright white paint). Our guest bedroom “before” was pretty dismal (basically a mattress and some blankets) so I’ve been on a mission to make it more inviting. I was pleasantly surprised that I made it look this good just by moving things around the house and using what we already had for now.

Swapping printed for white sheets made the room feel more Zen (no need to splurge here but a fresh set was much needed as the previous printed sheets we had on this bed didn’t even coordinate). And adding a more colorful set of pillows against the bright white gave the room an instant happy feel, and sort of takes away from the fact that we haven’t hung anything on the walls yet.

Since it will be my sister staying in this room I added a stack of my favorite magazines, candles, and a fun new body lotion Eau So Spectacular from the Eau So Love’s collection on the nightstand for her to try (any girls’ perfect recipe for a winter night in right?). It has a bright fruity floral scent that I love.

One of the perks of blogging is constantly getting to test new products and this makes for a fun way to share my latest samples and beauty discoveries with my guests.

Last time I stayed at my girlfriend Chris’ in New York I took note of the fact that she left a spare iPhone charger on the nightstand. I thought this was such a thoughtful touch for a guest room (also because my sister and I both always seem to forget ours when traveling).

I always have flowers in our house and think it’s a sweet touch to add them or any kind of greenery to the room and/or bath that the guests will be using. In our guest bath I added fresh white roses (my favorite) and made sure to stock it with extra supplies (clean towels, extra toilet paper, tampons–something my mama always taught me!).

The shower was freshly stocked as well–complete with a new tube of body wash in the same scent as the fruity floral Eau So Spectacular lotion in the room. Putting your favorite beauty products in the guest bath makes for a much more inviting shower–plus it’s always fun to try new products when you’re staying away from home–so be sure to treat them to some of the good stuff.
