discovering your signature scent

Signature Scent

2 June

There’s definitely something sweet about having people recognize your scent. Like when you haven’t seen your girlfriend for a while and the scent of her perfume takes you back to the dorm rooms–I mean it doesn’t get better than that. And since hearing (somewhere?) that you’re supposed to figure out your signature scent by 30 and never change it for that very reason, I’ve stuck with my personal favorite, rose, ever since turning the big 3-O last fall. I whittled down my stash of bottles only wearing Le Labo Rose 31 until just recently as I was turned onto Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud. Which smells insanely good! I’d have to say it’s now my number one.

Next on my rose scented wish-list: Byredo Rose of No Man’s Land

discovering your signature scent

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Signature scent vs. switching it up seasonally? And does your signature scent count if you switch up the bottles from time to time?

    Hello
Glad you did a post on fragrances. If you love rose and/or rose-oud/wood combos, check out the following:

Frederic Malle- Une Rose (love this one, very realistic damask rose)
L`Artisan Parfumeur- Voleur de Roses (realistic rose with patchouli. very deep/dark but gorgeous)
Tom Ford- Cafe Rose (coffee + rose)
Serge Lutens – La Fille de Berlin
    Atelier Cologne- Rose Anonyme

    and

If jo malone rose & oud is your favorite… this next one is MUST smell

    Armani Privé -Rose d’Arabie (unbelievable)
    Here are the reviews: http://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Giorgio-Armani/Armani-Priv-Rose-d-Arabie-10886.html

You can tell I am a little obsessed!

I’m kind of a collector of fragrances (I have way more than I’ve listed, but these are my go-to’s). I tend to mix up my perfumes seasonally. Spring: Clinique Happy in Bloom (I get the most compliments on this one!), Summer: Fresh Sugar Lychee, Fall: Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt, Winter: Elizabeth & James White Nirvana. If I had to pick a “signature” scent, I’d go with Clinique Happy in Bloom because I know it smells best on me!

@edb02a:disqus aw I used to wear Clinique Happy back in the day too 😉 so yum

I would love to have a signature scent and have gone back and forth with wearing specific ones for a long time, but I’ve actually switched it up over the past several months. It’s just hard for me to commit to ONE and wear it all the time. Haha! I wouldn’t say that I switch up scents seasonally, but I do have a few go tos. I alternate between wearing Tom Ford’s Fleur de Portofino and recently got into Jo Malone fragrances. I also have a fragrance by Pacifica called Sandalwood (it was $20 at Whole Foods and I love it!) Dying to try a Le Labo one though! They have started selling them at the Nordstrom near me and I am always going in for a whiff! 🙂

  • I like to have a signature scent plus the ability to change based on night and day. It’s weird but I just love the smell of like a killer shampoo, body wash, or deodorant lingering on someone throughout the day.

I love Jo Malone, I don’t have any of his perfumes but I have a candle in my living room and love it!! This would be a great signature scent!!

  • I change seasonally. Rose, peach, sandalwood in the summer, Chloe Narcissus in the winter.

  • I agree that it is so wonderful to have a signature scent for a lot of reasons– you smell familiar to your family and friends, and it helps define your vibe/style, as well as being a luxurious part of your everyday routine. Though I do get tired of wearing the same scent and my tastes also change over time. I am turning 30 this year and would love to narrow my collection down to one or two perfumes. The struggle for me is that I think my standards are too high! I want a natural/organic perfume in a beautiful bottle and a warm, yet clean and feminine scent. It’s tricky to find the perfect fit!
