STYLED: Kimono Dressing

Kimono styling (outside of the boudoir) has definitely been having a moment, finding its way into numerous collections this season. So when I was asked to style an editorial for a luxury kimono line based out of San Francisco, Old Shanghai, I was super excited to take on the challenge. I was inspired to show the kimonos styled in non-traditional settings making them a bit more approachable for everyday dressing–worn as a swimsuit coverup, over a silk slip dress (love this look for evening!), and paired more casually with vintage levi’s. It was such a fun shoot to be a part of and the photos turned out so good that I had to share.

Hands down the highlight of the shoot, for me, and I think I can speak on the part of everyone else, was the amazing farmhouse we got to use for the day in Sebastopol (located just outside of Sonoma). When it’s unbearably hot in Sacramento it’s such a treat to escape into the cooler weather. The house was the ideal blank canvas (amazing light with bright white walls and darker wooden floors) with undeniable rustic charm. Location, location, location–made my job easy!
