a toast to the new year

Two Thousand Seventeen.

It’s crazy to think back on 2016 and realize how much can change in a year.  Last New Year’s Eve I was excited to be settling into a new home and was most likely more preoccupied by what sequin piece I would be wearing when the clock struck midnight than anything else.  This year however, I rang in 2017 in my pjs, sipping champagne and eating Thai takeout next to our smiling five week old.  We may have only made it to east coast midnight, but I wouldn’t have wanted to spend it any other way.

Everyone warned me that these first precious weeks with a newborn fly by, and so I’ve really been trying to soak up all of the snuggles and spend as much time in the present as possible.  Of course the holidays are the perfect excuse to do so and spending time with both of our families and even sneaking off for a quick getaway to Carmel couldn’t have come at a more perfect time.  (Again, I swear this is just the best time of year to have a baby–not that you can really plan these things!)  The grandparents sure spoiled Rex over Christmas with their non-stop cuddles.  So much so that the little guy won’t let me put him down for a second this week which has made getting back into the swing of things and trying to get in some time at the computer a bit harder than anticipated.  I have much to figure out as far as time management and how I will be balancing my new mama role with work but I feel so very lucky to have this little love in my life and couldn’t be more excited to see what continued joy he’ll bring us in the new year.

PS: If you missed this giveaway with Petit Pehr, there’s still time to enter!–I’ll announce the winner tomorrow.
