Alicia Lund - Cheetah is the New Black

Cheetah is the New Black is the cool yet approachable girlfriend you turn to for style advice and a daily dose of lifestyle inspiration.

Cheetah is the New Black is an ever evolving space where I share my classic-meets-edgy-bohemian style, lifestyle and beauty inspiration as well as styling collaborations.  What started as a personal outlet in 2009 (during a major cheetah and leopard-print phase) has become so much more. Little did I know that a personal style diary–that started with photos snapped from my phone during my lunch breaks–would lead me down a new and unique career path.  I am so incredibly thankful for my supportive readers and the various opportunities Cheetah is the New Black has brought my way.

I hope you find this little corner of the web to be just the inspirational escape you were looking for!  And if this is your first time here, a little bit more about me, and some posts that you might like as a jumping off point are listed below.  Enjoy and thank you for following my journey–you all continue to inspire me to make this space better!!

I’m a born, raised, and very proud northern California girl.  Although I grew up in a smaller town (Chico) I like to say that I’m a city girl at heart (much of my childhood was spent with family in San Francisco after all).  I ran off to the Bay Area for college where I attended Santa Clara University, met my future husband and first truly fell in love with design and fashion.

Soon after graduating from Santa Clara with a pre-med degree in Combined Sciences (very exciting stuff) I realized medicine wasn’t for me.  I bounced around at a couple of start-ups before landing my first job in a creative field at Pixar.  It was here that I officially realized I needed to be doing something creative.  My then boyfriend (now husband) encouraged me to start a blog–which at the time I knew very little about but quickly fell in love with the incredible community.

Jump forward a couple years–we were married! and I followed him to the east coast for his graduate school program.  At this time Cheetah was still very much a hobby… but it allowed me to connect with some incredible brands and landed me my first styling opportunities, and later a job as the fashion editor at my favorite magazine–ELLE, ah! There I wrote and oversaw the fashion and accessories content for  It was a dream job for me–creating content for the ELLE girl, attending fashion week, meeting some of my favorite designers (hiii Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen of The Row)–and gave me a new perspective on the industry.

Flash forward–my husband was offered a job back in California and, although I wasn’t personally ready to leave New York, we both knew it was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.  Serendipitously, shortly upon moving back–we’re now located in Sacramento–I connected with the owners of a menswear store in my hometown.  They talked me into collaborating with them on a sister store and thus we made Syllabus happen!  I designed the space, threw a Pop-Up shop in San Francisco, and it was an incredible experience working with the people that made it happen day to day.  This past fall my business partners decided to take Syllabus in a new direction and I stepped back as the buyer.

Today I am blogging, styling, and in the midst of remodeling our first home.  I’m happiest when exploring and creating.  I love entertaining, sipping my red wine, laughing with girlfriends, ogling Moroccan rugs, and reading curled up on the couch next to my guy.

xx Alicia
