That Ranch Life | Visiting Stoney Creek

Tanner and I chat on the daily about our future “ranch life.”  Now we shall see if we ever actually move out to the country for reals, maybe just a future weekend ranch home ;)… but it’s always fun to search for property and day dream about the decor (me)!  For as much as I’m a city girl, I have some strong small town country roots in me, and we just love escaping to that slower paced lifestyle.  Last week my girlfriend Melissa was in town from Southern California to shoot a wedding out at her in-laws’ ranch in Somerset (about an hour from here).  She invited Rex and I out to hang and see the progress as her in-laws have been pouring a lot of love into the property since we visited Stoney Creek Ranch previously, last November.  It was so fun to see the changes they’ve made!  Of course things looked totally different as we were there in the fall when everything was lush, green and yellow… so it was hard to even distinguish the various trails that we were on before but they had done a ton of work on the barn and around the ranch to get things ready for wedding season and it’s looking so good!  I’m already dreaming up a fall dinner I want to plan in the barn.

Upon arrival my girlfriend Melissa grabbed my water bottle and inserted a beer in my hand instead, “for our walk around the property.”  Come Thursday afternoon, after a busy week… yeah I just love her style!  Everyone was working hard to get things set up for the wedding that Saturday, so Melissa, her sweet baby girl Winter, Rex and I stayed out of their way while admiring their work.  (In the time I was there they built a wooden bridge leading the guests to where the dinner would be set up!  Quite impressive.).  We walked the property, fed the horse and goats, got covered in head-to-toe dirt, ate blackberries and grapes straight from the vines, threw rocks in the creek, Rex chased chickens and ooh’d and ahh’d over the tractor.  I’m pretty sure he had one of the best days of his summer.  I mean it’s just pure bliss to be a toddler running free on a ranch.

My Ranch Style |  Denim on denim… but what’s new?  Well, actually this is a new-to-me denim jacket that was sent over from Revolve.  Love the lighter wash and cut!

Rex was not a fan of the farm animals… but the chickens on the other hand, Rex stopped to wave and say “hi” to each one.  It wasn’t clear who was chasing who here… Rex or the chicken… I think they were running after each other at different times.

This tractor, and getting to ride around the property in the ranger were big Rex highlights.

As soon as Rex saw the ranger he pointed and kept saying “ride!! ride!!”  And when we stopped he would say “no, no, no… more ride.”  Haha!

Rex wearing his The Hey Gang shirt and pants… that the brand recently sent to us.  I’m so in love with this made in Texas line.  Perfect for the little adventurer.  Also, did you catch the tee they sent as well with his name embroidered on it?  My heart just melted when I opened that package up.  I now want to learn how to chainstitch so I can sew his name on more tees.  It’s just the sweetest.

Rex pulled these boots out of his closet and insisted on wearing them earlier in the day.  I had actually forgotten about them and thought it was rather perfect that we were heading to a ranch.  He had no idea he styled his look perfectly for the outing!

Baby Winter!!  Isn’t she just the biggest dose of baby fever?  I can’t ever get over how light (in weight) babies are now that Rex is toddler size.  She felt so tiny in my arms.

We took the ranger up to the top of the hill at the end of the day to catch the sunset… and wow was it pretty spectacular.  Something about the dust we had just kicked up, and the way the sunlight was hitting it, it was casting a pretty awesome pink dusting.

Pretty sure Rex chowed down three big bunches of these grapes we picked.  (A fan of the Syrah grapes like his mom!)
