16 Black-Owned Businesses To Support

This week’s Black Lives Matter movement rocked me hard.  Black Lives have always mattered but there was something about this week that left me feeling completely gut wrenched and helpless. Just posting on Instagram didn’t feel right. I know the power of this community (a community who loves to discover new brands we can support). So as I saw other sites and content creators round-up lists of Black-owned brands we could support I was inspired to make this week’s #10Things just that. Which isn’t 10 things… it turned into 16. It’s a small step, and I know just supporting Black-owned businesses isn’t enough but it’s one step. Here are some of my favorites–-some local and some new-to-me that I’ve book marked throughout the week that I know you will love too!

And specifically for my local friends I thought 7×7 had some great suggestions for other Black-owned brands to support as well.

Shop Local: Public Land

If you’re local, Public Land is currently offering curbside pick up and local delivery of plants. They have such a wide assortment of cacti.

Shop: Brother Vellies

I’m sure a lot of you might be familiar with Brother Vellies’ amazing shoes! Seriously so stunning… and so many cool boots. But if you didn’t know they also started a small “Bodega” shop of one-of-a-kind speciality pieces including this garden tote which I love for taking to the park or beach.

Clean Beauty: Klur

Eat Local: South

If you’re local, I know you know South. Who doesn’t love the food at South?! Besides South, I saw this great list going around of other Black owned restaurants that we can support as well.

Fitness Local: Gabe Lemon

Gabe and I have been working out together for a couple of years now. I have him to thank for helping me get back into shape after both of my pregnancies. At the beginning of this year he went out on his own starting his own business, G6 Training, and it’s been so inspiring to see him build his brand. Besides fitness he is just such a positive bright light in my life.

Art: African Masks

We have two traditional African masks hanging in our home that are some of my absolute most treasured family hand-me-downs from our grandparents travels. You can find a lot of great finds out there on Etsy, ebay, Black-owned art galleries etc. One of my favorites, St. Frank, has quite the collection of pieces made in Africa as well and is currently donating 20% of their sales to NAACP.

Shop: Gracemade

Faith-driven lifestyle brand ethically made in LA–Gracemade–for great basics, like this easy summer linen dress.
