Sunday Girls’ Brunch at Home

I haven’t had brunch at home in who knows how long–so I gathered a group of girlfriends this past Sunday for a lazy afternoon meal. It had been raining all morning and our tree lined street is currently in full-on-autumnal-color mode which makes me so happy and added to the moody brunch vibe perfectly. Champagne, girlfriends, blueberry peach pie, and a little DIY floral wreath making was pretty much my idea of the best Sunday. We quizzed my girlfriend (and aesthetician) Gaby on the best skin saving tips, there was chatter about babies and sleepless nights (they’re not making that mama job sound easy!), upcoming weddings (pictures of this gal’s wedding dress!)… and of course home decor as I toured them all around my house for the first time. Love me some girl time!

I had been dreaming up an elevated fall girls’ brunch for a while now and although I didn’t feel 100% ready to entertain having just moved in, when my girlfriend, and freelance stylist, Bianca said she’d love to help me style it it was a done deal. Bianca and I are basically style soul sisters so having her help me execute my vision and pull together a last minute DIY floral wreath party after a busy week was so fun! (Tutorial to come). Hope this inspires any upcoming Thanksgiving tablescapes or just inspires you to gather your girlfriends because we all deserve a little more girl time.

Bianca and I both share a love for black so when I told her I wanted to create a moody brunch with black candles and dark florals offset by blush pink we were both giddy. I am just loving the freshness of the color blush this fall–too cool mixed with black. Plus, with our black and white kitchen the color palette was a no brainer.

Tip: Bianca bought fabric squares of various shades and patterns to use as the napkins. The frayed edges gave it a cool undone feel and this way you don’t have to worry about spending unnecessary dollars on pretty napkins you may only use a few times. Instead–splurge on pretty florals and set the mood with plenty of candles! Taper candles always make any party feel a bit more special.

We used a mix-match of pieces Bianca owned as well as my glassware and borrowed the plates from Mrs. Peasy (remember our party?). All of the serving dishes are from Pottery Barn. I love the organic feel of the wood!

I had had every intention of baking a quiche myself (and was excited to pull out all of my cookbooks) but after a couple days out of town, picking one up at a local bakery was the way to go for me. Actually, it was my mom who talked me into buying a back-up quiche and pie–”just in case” I didn’t feel like cooking when I got home. Mom’s know best–thanks mom!–because when I got home late Saturday night the very last thing I wanted to do was cook.
