LA Weekend Highlights

I used my girlfriend Jules’ birthday party as an excuse to get my guy to go down south with me this past weekend. We hadn’t been to LA together since our road-trippin’ honeymoon… almost 5 years ago so it was fun to be back in that big city with him. And since I’m no longer buying for Syllabus and hadn’t been to LA in a few months I was craving some southern California time.

I decided to switch things up and booked a couple nights at The Line Hotel (not to be confused with The Apartment by The Line). I have to admit, while this hotel is cool, centrally located in Koreatown, and has super yummy food… I missed The Ace. You know when you stay at hotels so much that they start to feel like home? Well that’s how I feel about the Ace. On the flip side, I’m glad I experienced a new hotel and I ended up running into a few friends in the Commissary there (pictured below)–so that’s when you know you must be in the right spot. Also, The Line has a speakeasy that we found out about through friends on the last night.

Each time I head to LA I try to plan out a few new things that I haven’t experienced / been to. That city is so big and spread out that you can’t possibly eat, see or go everywhere you want but we did a pretty good job of bouncing around this time. A few highlights from this particular trip that I would totally recommend and go back to again are:

EATS: almond butter and jelly toast at Sqirl.  bbq korean at Pot (in The Line Hotel–perfect for groups and sharing).  Commissary (also in The Line Hotel–good for brunch and instagrams).  Cassell’s (if staying near The Line–cute old school diner).

DRINKS: Cafe Stella (super love for this spot!).  brunch at Tart (after visiting Melrose Flea).

SHOP: Mohawk General Store (fave!–across from Bar Stella).  Scout (cool edit of designers and vintage where a snapped this cute cacti scene and discovered the coolest reupholstered denim chair).  Apartment by The Line Los Angeles (and across the street you must hit up Violet Grey, Chloé and Isabel Marant).

OTHER:  mani / pedi at the most adorable spot ever: Olive + June.  Rolling Greens Nursery (for their cool diy arrangement bar).
