Thoughtful Holiday Ideas for the Kids

This year I want to make the holidays as magical as ever for Rex and Willow. Christmas trees in their rooms! I’ve decided to go all out with my cheer level now that Willow is a little older and they’re both in that sweet spot age range where it’s truly just the best! I’m looking forward to starting new traditions in our home and pulling out the holiday decor early (I already got their plaid pjs out). We could all use the extra cheer this year!

I’m typically a procrastinator when it comes to holiday shopping but am trying to get it done early for once. With Rex’s birthday next week (just two days before Thanksgiving) I ended up ordering a few holiday items while browsing to get us in the spirit early. A new Christmas advent calendar book, festive cookie cutters and some stocking stuffers. Rounding up some fave finds for you!

Holiday PJs

I pulled out Rex and Willow’s holiday pajamas early and it’s bringing all of the joy around here! They have the plaid version of these Petite Plume pjs, but how sweet is this print from Maisonette? I’m also not one for a matching family set but the mommy-and-me sets from Dôen (and for mom!) have me very tempted. Love the deer print which is very nostalgic for me! Another sweet nightgown fave, from La Paloma.

Christmas Crackers

I want to come up with all of these fun little surprises for the month of December and was inspired by Jo Malone London’s Christmas Crackers to hunt some kid ones down for Rex and Willow. I found these adorable Sausage Dog Crackers that I know they’re going to love and plan to have them on the table for Christmas Eve.

First Ornaments

This year I want to go all out putting small trees in each of their rooms. I’ve never bought them their own ornaments and I want to start that tradition this year. Some of my favorite ornaments for kids are from Meri Meri–like this adorable cat and mushroom that I bought for Willow. Also love these personalized ornaments from Oeuf.

Advent Calendar

One of my favorite holiday traditions when I was younger was the holiday advent calendar that my Nana sewed for us. It had 24 heart pockets as our count down to Christmas and each morning there would be a small surprise inside. I now have the same advent calendar that I use for Rex and Willow. In my search I also came across this Christmas advent book that looks great.

Holiday Tunes & Playlists

My mom always had holiday music playing around our house when I was young. To be honest I’m not a big Christmas carol / holiday music person–but this year again I say bring all the cheer. We just got Rex this record player for his birthday which is next week and I’m looking forward to playing records this year.

Christmas Eve Book Exchange

My friend Taylor posted about the idea of doing a Christmas Eve family book exchange this year and I think I want to do the same. Cozy holiday pjs, a cup of tea and diving into a good book is my idea of holiday heaven. Bitte has some of my favorite books for kids. And a book set that I love to read to R & W, with adorable pictures, are these Chirri & Chirra books.

Stocking Stuffers

I’ve always been a bit of a procrastinator but this year I wanted to be better about finding really sweet stocking items. I love these rock, gem and lego crayons, temporary tattoos, these miniature polepole animals are my fave!, sunglasses, bath bombs, play jewelry, and hair barrettes.

Holiday Crowns

I got Rex and Willow these Oeuf play crowns a little while back and they get a lot of play around our house. I think they’re especially sweet to pull out on birthdays and the holidays. You can also have them embroidered with their names.

Festive Cookie Cutters

Of course there will be plenty of baking happening at our house. I just bought my first set of festive cookie cutters for Rex & Willow.
